Hahndorf - Day 2

Day 2 -
a day of tasting and tippling!!:)

Dad and I and Jane took a trip up to the Barossa to visit Dad's beloved, most favourite winery in the world -Rockford's. ( Jane is Mike's tom tom..she gets very excited whenever she detects a winery within cooeee, and rings a bell very loudly and annoyingly. I suppose she could be turned off,but I didn't know how, and her helpfulness in getting around the Barossa was invaluable.)

( a couple of posy pics outside the cellar door at Rockfords). Rockford's lived up to it's reputation and a half dozen, including the fabulous basket press and the rifle range cab sauv found it's way home.

Next stop, in contrast to the stone, wood, cobblestone and age of Rockford's (cellar door circa 1850) was Kabminye Winery, just 200 metres up the road, and gleaming in newness, glass and new shiny corrugated steel. We had lunch here - wonderful beetroot soup, and a very ordinary chicken sandwich which was a bit disappointing. The wine was beautiful though,(in fact, this was my favourite winery of the trip) and a half dozen from here also found it's way home.

Next stop - Richmond Grove.. we weren't over fussed and continued on empty handed for once.

Lastly, we stopped in at Yalumba. The buildings here are quaint - they remind me of a big old boarding school or university or something. The Galway shiraz was on special and freight free, so a case made it's way home and we are now fully stocked. ( a temporary situation i am sure!)..well the wine rack is fully stocked..under- the-stairs is a bit sad.

So after all this tippling and tasting, it was time to hot foot it back to Hahndorf in time for afternoon tea with Lynn and Mike. - Hello chocolate fondue!! hehhehehe
We eventually staggered and wallowed backed to Adelaide in the pouring rain, dark and cold and caught the last flight back to Sydney. South Austrlia is a wonderful place -it's all about eating and drinking:) ..
