Hahndorf
Hahndorf is a small town about half an hour north of Adelaide in the Adelaide Hills. It was settled by the Germans early in the 19th century and still prides itself on being a "German town".. there are a number of German cake shops, butchers, candle makers, pubs and a town band - complete with lederhosen etc.
Excellent accommodation and very very good food and drink is to be had at the Greenwood establishment. We had two days here with Lynn and Mike . We relaxed and enjoyed the good company -and the eating and drinking!!
Greenwood establishment
Morning Tea - Day 1
Morning tea was in a little cafe called "Chocolate at No 5"...very yummy coffee and choc brownie. and very cool and charming decor..if you go be sure to visit the bathroom..it's worth a look!
Day 1 - lunch @ Hahndorf Hill winery -nibbles, mouth wateringly beautiful vegetable tart washed down with lovely Shiraz, and chocolate coated figs for dessert. After lunch we went for a wander around country lanes and into town...
Country rambling!
Rose from Lynn's rose garden.
Bizarre fairy atop a shop in the main street.
So after a day of eating, drinking and seeing the sights .. quaint shopping strip, wineries, country roads, vineyards ,lovely cows!! & rose gardens -ubiquitous in S.A!), Lynn cooked us a beautiful meal and we sank into relaxation with fine wine and an open fire.!! I can see the attraction of a laid back life in hahndorf..my waistline would decidedly suffer though.
