22 Million

Today, Australia's population reached 22 million..at 1.59pm.

I find it fascinating that we are being counted so meticulously, but of course we need the stats for demography planning etc. I also find it amazing we are gaining 1 person every 1 minute and 12 seconds!!.. by my (admittedly inferior) maths.. that means 1200 new people every single day>>>Can that be right??? If anyone can check the maths and correct this, pls let me now..it seems like a lot of ppl!!..more than a footy crowd..more than your average school..enough people to create a whole new suburb every 10days!!....Megan is worried about where we'll put them...She feels they may have to live in the desert like those houses in Tunisia!!!

Adieu Tassie

We finished our holiday with a wander around the ancient streets and alleys around Constitution Dock.
We lunched at a little Greek place..the octopus was good:)..and the beer apparently.
Then it was time to head for the airport via Richmond..a very very pretty village sporting the oldest bridge in Australia. It was built in 1823 by convicts deported here from Britain. It is said the bridge is haunted by ghosts..esp the ghost of one George Grover, who beat his convicts mercilessly and who in return was beaten to death by convict workers and thrown into the river.

We flew home on a cold glorious evening flight. It had been a wonderful holiday:)

Tassie -Last Day

We spent the morning of our last day in Tassie at Salamanca Markets. (They're very similar to the Rocks markets here in Sydney.). We pottered around and enjoyed the atmosphere

and some wonderful buskers..
We were quite taken with these strange South American types who had some lovely panpipe sounds..we bought their cd.. the sound doesn't have the same appeal on the cd and minus the atmosphere of the markets!!:(

These young boys on the other hand, remain in my memory as terrific ...and were the recipients of a generous paper donation on my part. They had a fun and happy sound and enormous joie -de- vivre..and they were saving up to buy a dog.. how could i resist!! I wonder if they got their dog??
