Birthday lunch - No. 2

Louise took me to Lunch at Bill's today to celebrate my birthday.. We walked up past the Cruising Yacht Club to Darlinghurst -- it's a beautiful place to walk!!

I had the corn fritters with bacon, lettuce and roasted tomato and salsa.....they were so fresh and delicious!::)

Afterwards we walked back to her place and sat on the balcony having coffee and watching the harbour --..very relaxing and a really lovely day..thank you Louise.

Birthday:)

Mine and my Country's!;)

We celebrated my birthday with lunch in Manly.

@ Hugos -- it's right on the wharf..The views are gorgeous; the ambience casual, modern and funky; the food - entrees pricey but the pizza good..the wine - overpriced!!( If it's views and ambience you're after, definitely go there, but if it's cheapish value-for-money meals and wine, go elsewhere.

The local teens provided the entertainment by regularly leaping off the railing on the wharf into the harbour below, en masse, with lots of noise, and attracting the local constabulary who moved them on, only to have them return half an hour later and do it all again. They were harmless and having fun..but it IS dangerous!

I did my bit for Australia Day and the country by wearing my new shoes:) - such a fashion statement!!

We were planning to go to the open air cinema on the harbour to see "Australia" at night, but it rained(hard), so we ate takeaway sushi on our laps in the lounge room and had a glass of wine and watched the Australian Open instead. . Thanks go to Megan who trekked into Lady Macquarie's Chair via ferry and queued for 2 hours, only to have the plan pulled when it rained:(...and then had to get all the way home again!!

Done!!

I have been wiling away the hot...very hot ..35-40 degree summer days with this cute Snoopy jigsaw (1000 pieces). Usually I hate jigsaws..I find them frustrating and challenging..all those acres of blue sky etc., but this one was fun and not too difficult!!

Choppers!!

It was like a war zone here this afternoon.

A bushfire erupted between Davidson and Killara and specifically threatened homes in Albany St, Killara( address of the Changs - I'm not certain if their house was under attack or not, but it must have been mighty close). Two water choppers were filling up somewhere near the Cascades and flying directly over our driveway for about 3 hours. The whole house shook every time they flew over. There was a great thump-thump-shudder and noise just before they emerged from the valley and over the front of our house. As they went past, the house shook and the chair I was sitting on vibrated. It felt like a war!!

Choppers fight Sydney north shore blaze

January 13, 2009 - 4:34PM

A bushfire on Sydney's north shore is threatening homes in a suburban area.

Firefighters rushed to bushland between East Killara and Davidson about 2pm (AEDT) on Tuesday following reports of a blaze, fire authorities said.

Five trucks from the NSW Fire Brigades and six Rural Fire Service (RFS) tankers and their crews were battling the inferno in the area described as a gully.

The RFS also called in two water-bombing helicopters, including an air crane.

More than 200 square metres have already burned and the fire was quickly working its way up a hill, an RFS spokesman said.

At least three houses in Albany Crescent, at East Killara, were under threat, but RFS firefighters have positioned themselves and a fire truck between the homes and the blaze and were attempting to control the fire.

Kyoto Station - Somewhere around midnight

As a codicil to the previous post, I should post these pics of us becoming acquainted with Astro Boy, Kimba and an unknown super heroine on our first sightseeing foray out of the hotel about midnight on the night we arrived.

We were all soo excited - Astro Boy was a dearly loved family favourite cartoon when the children were about 20 years younger than they are now. It seemed a quintessential iconic exciting and satisfying welcome prepared especially for us and an amazing coincidence to be be the very first "sight" we came across.

I don't know who is the girl that Tim is flirting with. I'd be careful if I were him - her bloke doesn't look too impressed.

We also discovered that Japan has an infatuation with France - and they make some very good french pastries! We stumbled across this extremely pretty Paris light show.
