ANZAC DAY

It is Anzac day here in Australia. A day for Australians and New Zealanders to remember and commemorate those who died at Gallipoli, in World War 1, and all the fathers, husbands and sons who have died in service.

At dawn there are services around the country. The Last Post is played and this verse is recited.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old;
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.
(by Laurence Binyon)

In homes, mothers make Anzac biscuits in remembrance- these biscuits were made by the mothers and wives of the World War 1 diggers and sent to them on the battlefields.

Here is my batch!:)

In other news, today is our 13th straight day of rain! it is exceedingly soggy here.

Friday 11th

Megs and I went to the Orpheum to see "The other Boleyn Girl".. I imagine the critics and historians amongst us probably took a dimmish view of this movie, but I enjoyed it - it was sufficiently melodramatic and soap -operaish enough to keep me happy - the characters seemed to be endlessly rushing along corridors, bosoms heaving,or galloping noisily about the countryside under dark glowering skies. Scarlett Johannsen can do no wrong in my eyes, but the older stars, in particular the actress who played katherine of Arragon, probably gave stronger performances.

light fitting @ the Orpheum!!

Wii Battles

Wii battles ..... the combatants, as represented by the characters the 4 kids made to represent themselves. Where is my character?? I don't have one... I've only played a couple of times.. boxing..(it wore me outafter 1 round!!)and bowling. All I can say is I'm slightly less bad at bowling than boxing!:)

..the concentration!!!

..the fun!!:)

Goodbye Chris!!!!!!!!!!!!

We farewelled Chris last night. Yes,there were many tears, but in his wonderful inimitable style,Chris managed, as always, to entertain us!

Megan also entertained with a rendition of "lip my stockings" ..unfortuneately it wasn't captured on video! it was fabulous though..she lay on the floor right outside the entrance to customs-past the line that says "Do Not Cross" and kicked her legs and moaned about Mr Bob Harris in perfect "Lost In Translation" style. She had us all in stitches..except Chris who was so embarrassed by his completely mad family, he couldn't wait to get on the plane:)
